Our mission is to create a beautiful smile in a kind, caring, and fun environment.

Our office is designed to deliver a small-town atmosphere providing you with a warm and caring experience throughout your time with us. We take pride in our ability to put patients at ease.
Dr. Gelnett and her staff strive to give each patient a personalized experience by engaging them in topics they enjoy, explaining each appointment and procedure and working gently and carefully. Our small size allows us to give the one-on-one service we feel our patients deserve. We encourage you to let us know if you or your child are having difficulties or concerns, particularly if we can help in any way.
We have been fortunate to provide service to hundreds of families over the years, and for that, we are very grateful! THANK YOU to all of you who have chosen us for your care.
WELCOME to all of you who are considering our office for your orthodontics needs. Bourne Orthodontics is like a second home to us. We hope you feel the same way!
We know most of our patients have not had braces before — it is a new experience. With new experiences sometimes comes anxiety. Whether your child is anxious or not our goal is to make their journey with braces as fun as possible.
At each appointment we let your child know what to expect at this and the following visit, particularly at the beginning of treatment. If your child has any anxieties, please let us know so we can best accommodate and, hopefully, help to alleviate some of it. Best of all, we do not have any needles in the office!
Your Orthodontic AppointmentsPDF downloadMost of our younger patients are treated with metal braces that have colors over them; picking the colors is often the part they enjoy the most. Rainbow, candy cane, July 4th colors — we can do any combination they choose and they get to change them each visit!
For our older teenagers who are looking for a more aesthetic look, clear braces or clear aligners may be an option for them.
Our braces are designed to straighten your teeth and improve your bite. We offer traditional metal braces, clear braces, and Invisalign.

Congratulations for taking the first step towards a beautiful and healthy smile!
This first appointment is as much about diagnosis as it is about talking to the kids and answering any questions they may have about teeth and braces. Our goal is to have the patient meet and interact with each of our staff members to build their comfort level. This helps many patients feel comfortable with our office and reduces some anxiety about the next appointment.
For many kids, they are excited to start braces and can’t wait to get them on, YAY! For some, they are less excited and/or nervous. We will work with you and your child to make the process as comfortable as possible.
Pictures are taken with a camera, and an x-ray if recommended.
After the diagnostic records are taken, you’ll consult with our Treatment Coordinator and Dr. Gelnett to learn how your child’s teeth and jaw are developing.
Check in at our front desk, then an assistant will bring the patient back into the operatory to meet each of our staff members.
This is your opportunity to get to know us and ask as many questions as you can think of.
The forms below MUST be complete before the beginning of the appointment. Incomplete or missing forms may result in your appointment being rescheduled. If you have any trouble with the forms, come to your appointment 15 minutes early and we will help you complete them.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends children visit an orthodontist no later than age 7. Many children will not be ready for treatment at this age but seeking an early evaluation has many benefits. Fortunately, we find with this approach, by the time most kids are ready they are excited about getting braces and it’s something they look forward to.
If your child is not ready for treatment, Dr. G will place them on a recall and will continue to monitor their oral development. If Dr. G feels there is some treatment that can help the jaws grow in a more favorable way and make treatment easier in the future, she will discuss the next steps at the consultation and we will work at your child’s pace and comfort level. We find with this approach, often children feel proud of themselves. At the completion of the early treatment, we will have a follow-up consultation to give your child photos of the results they achieved, allowing them to bask in their success seeing the positive changes they’ve made in their mouth.
You are worth it!
At Bourne Orthodontics, we listen to your concerns and goals to gear your treatment plan to fit your lifestyle. Braces are not just about cosmetics — your bite and the alignment of your teeth can have lasting effects on your overall health.
As an adult, the decision to begin orthodontics can seem intimidating. It doesn’t have to be. Many times we have heard adult patients express how long it took for them to book an appointment for themselves even though it’s something they’ve been wanting to do for a while. The reasons are varied — not having the time while raising kids, putting their children’s braces first, sometimes they are afraid and overwhelmed, or they thought braces were just cosmetic reasons and they weren’t worth it.
We understand you may have some apprehensions and we’ll do our best to help alleviate them. Our treatment options include:

Creating beautiful smiles is why I love orthodontics. Creating them in a kind, caring, and fun environment is why I opened Bourne Orthodontics.
Dr. Julie Gelnett is a Board Certified Orthodontist graduating Magna Cum Laude from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2001. Following dental school, she continued her studies at B.U. and received her certification in Orthodontics and Dental Facial Orthopedics.
Dr. Gelnett and her family have made Cape Cod their home. As you drive around town keep an eye out — you’ll probably see her running with her hair in a high ponytail or pigtails. Besides running, she loves yoga and going to the beach to relax. Dr. G also loves all things Disney. Don’t be surprised if you come to our office to see her dressed as one of the 7 Dwarfs or an M & M.
Her fun and relaxed personality translates to the office and patients. Come join us for one of our rodeos, luaus or at our festive holiday times. Dr. G will be the one dressed as an elf!!!

Orthodontic emergencies refer to situations that occur outside of your regularly scheduled visits. Some can wait for your next scheduled appointment; some can’t & need immediate attention. Please see below for a recommendation for your emergency.
Any broken wire, bracket, or appliance should be repaired in a timely manner! As minor as it may appear, broken or loose orthodontic mechanics will lead to larger problems. Please know, that while something is broken it is not actively working which may hinder treatment or treatment time. Call the office on the next business day (or leave a message for a call back).
The little blue elastics placed between your teeth to make room for your next appointment. If any of these come out, call the office on the next business day.
Brackets (the pieces on your teeth holding the wires) can come loose or off. Call the office during normal business hours to set up an appointment.
Archwires (the wire over the bracket). Call first thing the next business day. Broken wires will require a quick visit to fix — about 10 minutes.
The fun colors we change at every visit that go over the wire and bracket are there for a purpose. If your appointment is coming up soon, this is not an emergency. If your appointment is several weeks away, we will have you stop in for a quick visit.
Lost or broken retainers or aligners are not an after-hours emergency. Please call the office during regular business hours. DO NOT WEAR any retainer or aligner that has the potential of breaking into pieces. It could be a choking hazard.
(Anything that isn’t braces but is in your mouth). Please call the office as soon as you notice something amiss with any appliance. Each appliance is unique in function and has different solutions. By calling the office, we can ask some clarifying questions to set up the most appropriate appointment. If it is still connected somewhere else in the mouth, and we are closed, please text the emergency line to discuss the best option for the next appointment.
Any significant pain or discomfort, swelling, or airway concerns is an emergency. If you have a loose appliance please refer to that section above.
Just a reminder: the best way to limit emergencies is to take care of your braces. Avoid foods that are too hard, sticky or chewy.
Orthodontic consultations: we offer free orthodontic consultations to help you determine which treatment is right for you. Our team will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan.
